Juvenile Fire Setters

recognizing & Addressing Fire-Setting Behavior

It is not uncommon for young children to be curious about fire or see it as exciting rather than understanding how quickly it can become dangerous. However, fire play and intentional fire setting can result in serious injuries, loss of property, or other harmful consequences. Recognizing concerning behaviors early can help families address a child’s interest in fire before it becomes more serious.

Redings Mill Fire District has trained staff available to assist families who are concerned about a child’s interest in or use of fire. Staff can help evaluate the situation, provide appropriate fire safety education, and determine whether participation in a Juvenile Fire Setter program may be beneficial. When appropriate, the District can provide this educational program at the fire station.
