The Redings Mill Fire Protection District recently received the results from a Public Protection Classification review that was conducted in September of 2015. This review was conducted by the Insurance Service Office (ISO) for the purpose of gathering information to determine a Public Protection Classification, which insurers use for underwriting and to calculate premiums for fire insurance. The Fire Suppression Rating Schedule (FSRS) recognizes fire-protection features only as they relate to suppression of fires in structures.
ISO Fire Ratings Classification Split 4/5/10 will go into effect April 1, 2016.
The Redings Mill Fire District has three primary ISO Ratings, the new ratings are as follows.
For properties that are within 5 miles of a fire station and have a fire hydrant within 1,000 feet the classification is now a Class 4. The previous rating was also a Class 4 meaning there was not sufficient improvements to improve to the next classification.
For properties that are within 5 miles of a fire station but do not have a fire hydrant within 1,000 feet the classification is now a Class 5. The previous rating was a Class 6, the largest factor that assisted in the improved classification was improvements to the rural water system that transects a large portion of the fire district.
For properties that are outside 5 miles of a fire station the classification remains a Class 10. A Class 10 designation is considered unprotected.
