Redings Mill FD Receives $211,200.00 in Protective Equipment

Redings Mill, MO December 15, 2015: Redings Mill Fire Protection District received $211,200.00 in firefighter personal protective equipment after receiving a grant through FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. The equipment will allow Redings Mill Fire District to replace 33 self-contained breathing apparatus and 66 air cylinders, bringing all of the department’s breathing equipment up to the National Fire Protection Association’s current standard, and enhancing our departments firefighting capabilities. In addition the grant was able to fund a new thermal imaging camera and three Rapid Intervention Packs. The thermal imaging camera will allow firefighters to see through smoke filled conditions to help in locating victims trapped by a fire. The Rapid Intervention Packs contain breathing air and tool systems that firefighters can take into a building to rescue trapped victims or firefighters. The system provides the ability to get additional air to a firefighter that may be low or out of air, as well as an additional mask for a victim or firefighter if needed. The system also carries rescue tools that can aid in moving a downed victim or firefighter to safety. The equipment should be in service on our fire apparatus by January 1.

Redings Mill Fire Protection District serves a 110 square mile response area in the northwest corner of Newton County Missouri. The department currently has a staff of three Chief Officers, and 12 career staff working as a 4 person crew on three 24 hour shifts, and an additional 11 volunteer firefighters. The department responds to an average of 1200 calls per year, including structural and wildland fire response, emergency medical assistance, auto accident response, and other technical rescue calls.
